On the eve of the Queer Azadi March in Mumbai, I thought I would post this paper, written in response to an essay called ‘How Natural is Normal? Feminism and Compulsory Heterosexualtiy’ by feminist scholar Nivedita Menon. I wrote it a few months ago for a class called ‘Understanding Society’ (taught by Prof. Shilpa Phadke), and thought I’d bring it up for discussion now. The time seems appropriate. I would be interested in starting a debate around the ideas expressed by various writers and theorists in the paper. My own, at the time of writing this paper, were slightly muddled and so come across only in brief snippets. The paper can be found here: Queering the pitch for feminism.
